Chinese manufacturer BYD is all set to launch a new car in order to capture the majority of India’s EV industry, as confirmed by President of BYD, Stella Li on Tuesday. According to various sources, BYD is currently working on the development of a new vehicle design, but the launch has not been confirmed by the company.

Stella Li further added by saying that, “India is a growing market for us and we need to put constant efforts.” This was confirmed by him at the World Government’s Summit held in Dubai.

Model Specifically for Indian Road Conditions

Li also addressed further, “We will be launching a different model for India as my team is currently working on this project, but there is still some more to do. BYD, which was earlier established as a battery manufacturer, has sold more than 2.26 million electric cars last year and has beaten Tesla to become the world’s top electric automaker.

The company has made a vision of 24% growth in the international markets in 2026. This amounts to a total of 1.3 million electric vehicles sold outside China, which also includes hybrid vehicles

Improving China-India Relations

The gradual establishment of good relations between China and India after the heated border clash in 2020 is good news for brands like BYD, which is enhancing its presence in local markets to push beyond their territorial boundaries.

Li also reflected that BYD will be slowly transforming their vehicle designs specifically for the global markets and will be aligned to the recent safety regulations, as authorities have announced a ban on hidden door handles, leading to safety concerns, BYD will bring back the mechanical door handles in its international models.
