EKA Mobility launches 15 electric buses in Zanzibar.

EKA Mobility has introduced its 12-meter electric buses in Zanzibar, which marks the company’s entry into the public transport sector. The flag-off ceremony was attended by the President of Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, who inaugurated the first lot of electric buses for the public transport services.

This deployment is a part of a broader electric mobility programme, which ordered a total of 35 electric commercial buses, with the fleet expected to grow to 150 EKA electric buses by the end of this year, as stated by the company. 

The main aim of this programme is the faster adoption of electric public transport and creating diverse job opportunities and providing technical training for local personnel.

The President of Export Marketing & SCM, EKA Mobility, Vijay Yelne, expressed his views on this and said, “The launch of Zanzibar’s first electric bus is a big step towards sustainable development and reflects strong image of EKA Mobility in order to deliver highly advanced electric mobility solutions beyond India.”

Under this project, EKA Mobility is also working with Global Rapid Transport (GRT) in order to train the local personnel for specific vehicle operations, maintenance, software systems, and safety. The Zanzibar Social Security Fund (ZSSF) is also working closely with GRT, in order to build capacity-building and operational preparedness initiatives.
