JSW Motors plans of launching their first electric car could be postponed due to the company's slow approvals in importing Chinese components, which is one of the major reasons why JSW could enter late into the Indian market, as confirmed by news sources.

According to the company, due to the delays of government officials importing licenses for specific China-manufactured parts, their debut model could arrive late in the Indian market. This issue reflects the various hurdles manufacturers face due to India’s tight import and certification rules for Chinese manufacturers and suppliers.

Delays in timelines due to approvals for Chinese suppliers.

JSW Motors sent a letter to the government officials as it required approvals for Chinese suppliers involved in the manufacturing of safety glass, which also includes windscreen and sunroofs. The company clarified that these parts were not available with Indian suppliers.

JSW Motors launch plans postponed

Since the implementation of India’s quality control regulations in 2020, overseas component manufacturers have to go through a local certification process before supplying their parts to Indian manufacturers, a tedious process that can take several months.

First Model Planned For H2 2026.

However, the launch timeline is not officially revealed by the company, the letter suggests that component-sourcing approvals will play an important role in deciding the exact timeline of the launch of JSW in the highly evolving Indian EV industry
