June 2026 has been a legendary month for EVs in the Indian auto industry. With an impressive sales of more than 31,000 electric passenger vehicles registered in the month of June, EVs have officially become a mainstream source of mobility for a wide range of car buyers.

If we look at the alternative fuels including the CNG, Hybrid, and EVs account for substantial 40% of the market share for the first time in the passenger-vehicle segment, with EVs capturing 7.75% of the Indian market. The results indicate a change in the momentum towards just choosing petrol and diesel vehicles.

The Big Takeaways from June 2026 EV Sales

With this massive sales boom in June 2026, we have predicted the future of the Indian EV industry.

Tata is Still the Boss: With more than 12,000 units sold in June, Tata Motors are dominating the Indian EV market by offering a wide range of electric vehicles and body styles. Their developed EV portfolio is their ultimate winning strategy for India.

Mahindra’s High-Speed Trust: Mahindra is also inching closer with a staggering 118% Year-on-Year (YoY) growth, which has been entirely taken forward by aggressive born-electric SUV strategy.

The Maruti Factor: Maruti is currently at fourth position, but its official entry is a long-term game changer and this is all because of its reliable service network.

Legacy Brands are Vulnerable: Big ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) companies in India like Hyundai cannot easily win the EV space, as their scope of thinking is quite different from conventional car buyers. EV buyers prioritise more on range, battery technology and competitive pricing over big brand names.

The sales of June 2026 have proved that the electric future is not tomorrow, but it’s parked right in our garage. The only question now is Which EV are you purchasing next?
