Nissan’s Future Cars & Hybrid Strategy Explained: What's Next After Tekton?
Nissan is planning big for India, as its strategy was explained by Chief Performance Officer of Nissan, Guillaume Cartier, who recently told about Nissan’s future plans at the global introduction of their latest SUV, the Nissan Tekton.
The Expanding SUV Portfolio
Nissan is officially ramping up its SUV segment as the company wants to target a diverse amount of Indian buyer demographic. According to Cartier, Nissan is working on a larger SUV specifically for the Indian market.
AdvertisementIf we look at the current Nissan portfolio, these four models account for 60% of the market. This is possible due to the massive R&D center in Chennai, which comprises 8,000 engineers and a strong manufacturing flexibility with its partners, Nissan is ready to produce agile and localised products for the Indian market.

Nissan’s Hybrid & EV Strategy
However, currently there are no plans for an immediate e-Power Hybrid announcement alongside the recently launched Tekton, as consumers will have to wait longer. Cartier further stated that, “We are following a pragmatic “step-by-step” approach for the Indian market.
The current EV adoption in India is moving at a constant but slow rate of around 5-6%, as Nissan is closely following the Indian consumer behaviour and local regulations. For now, the Tekton will be only coming with two traditional engines. However, Nissan is expected to introduce hybrid and EV options at a later stage, once they capture consumer demand.
