Porsche could discontinue the Taycan by the end of 2030 as reported by the German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche. This news has come a couple of months after the global introduction of the 2027 Taycan and five months after Porsche’s plan to combine the Taycan and Panamera brand names.

Why is Porsche discontinuing the Taycan?

The Porsche Taycan registered an impressive sales of 40,960 units in 2023, but in 2025, the sales faced a significant drop by over 60% to 16,339 units. This drop in numbers has forced Porsche to stop the production of the Taycan several times over the years.

Apart from the drop in numbers, Porsche has also planned to immediately cease the production of Taycan, as mentioned in the WirtschaftsWoche’s report.

However, the manufacturer is yet to sign the paperwork, the German report has stated that the understanding has been done, with Porsche's Executive Board of Directors and General Works Council agreeing to proceed with the gradual discontinuation. However, the Taycan is likely to be manufactured at Porsche’s Stuttgart facility.

Porsche’s Future Cars Road Map

While the Taycan may be phased out, Porsche is planning to bring high-performance electric sedans as a potential successor could likely join the Panamera line-up and will be merged with a single nameplate, similar to what the brand did with Macan and Cayenne line-up.

The CEO of Porsche, Michael Leiters expressed his views on this, “For the short term, we are planning to remove the Taycan as we have invested a lot in the model and want to observe how it generated demand."
