Volkswagen will rename its ID.4 to ID.4 Tiguan before launching it across Europe in 2027.

Volkswagen is all set to launch the ID.4 under the ID.Tiguan nameplate, when it arrives next year. The rebranding will be applied for the European markets, as the model is also planned for the North American market as the successor to the ID.4.

Volkswagen ID.4 Naming Strategy

The upcoming ID.Tiguan will not be the electric version of the standard ICE Tiguan, as the company is planning to sell both vehicles alongside each other, followed by the same approach as the ID.Polo and ICE-powered Polo. 

However, the two SUVs will be mechanically different from each other. The electric model will be underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MEB architecture, while the ICE and plug-in hybrid is based on the MQB platform.

The Tiguan brand has been prevalent for two decades, with more than 8.3 million vehicles manufactured. Volkswagen is utilising the goodwill of this name to its dedicated EV portfolio. 

Volkswagen ID.Tiguan Design

The facelift version will get substantial revisions at both ends of the SUV, although its proportions and dimensions will be unchanged. Volkswagen has redesigned the front and rear lighting, while the new SUV makes it look more upright and boxy.

The overall side profile is similar to the existing ID.4, as the design is also seen on newer Volkswagen EVs, which also includes the ID.Polo and updated ID.3 Neo. 

In terms of interior changes, there could be an inclusion of a larger digital instrument display which will be a significant highlight of the cabin. Volkswagen will be also introducing physical buttons and separate window switches for each door. It will also include a rotary volume control between the front seats. 

Volkswagen ID.4 Tiguan Expected India Launch

The ID.4 Tiguan is expected to be introduced early next month, with European sales expected to start from early 2027. Volkswagen has also confirmed the launch for North American markets. However, the company has not revealed the exact launch timeline for India.
