MG Windsor EV Ownership Review 13,000 km: Service Costs & Savings Truth
MG Windsor is one of the most popular EVs of India, which garnered instant love and recognition just after its launch. Our team at AllAboutEVs did an ownership review of Naveen Sharma, the owner of MG Windsor EV who has clocked more than 13,000 Km in a year.
The owner has brought the top-spec model of the MG Windsor EV Essence and regularly commutes between Delhi-NCR traffic and highways, clocking more than 200 km every single day. Thus he shared his experience of living with the MG Windsor EV, from savings to the service costs, as he covers an extensive 200 km every single day.
Why did he switch to EV?
Naveen told us that his daily commute stretches to a 190-195 Km round trip between Sonipat and Manesar. Previously he had a diesel XUV300, but after the implementation of GRAP-4 restrictions in Delhi-NCR, owning a diesel car was almost impossible.

He was looking for a car that could run in Delhi seamlessly without burning his money for his daily office commutes. He selected the MG Windsor EV Essence at a total cost of Rs 16.70 lakh on-road. He also saved money by going for outside insurance.
MG Windsor EV Performance & Driving: Is it Stable?
Naveen was genuinely impressed with the car’s exceptional stability at high speeds, as when he pushed to triple-digit speeds (Up to 160 km/hr), the car was planted with no vertical movements. He also highlighted the impressive braking performance, as there were various situations of panic braking at 70-80 km/hr, but the car was stable and was in line.
Stiff Suspension: However, he found the suspension to be on a stiffer side, and due to this some deep potholes can be felt inside the car. But the good part is that this stiffness results in a rock solid stability on highways.

According to Naveen, the “Aero-Lounge” seats were super comfortable especially on long journeys, with ample legroom on offer that keeps his family comfortable on those long road trips. He also prefers to be seated at the back over opting for the front seats.
Diesel Vs Electric Cost Comparison
This is where Windsor EV proves its metal and outshines diesel powered cars due to the sheer low cost of running and maintenance over a long period of time.
| Diesel Running Costs | EV Running Costs |
| In 13,000 Km, Naveen’s estimation of total Rs 1.25 Lakhs of Diesel | According to Naveen, his home electricity bill only went up by ₹700-₹1000 over two months. |

NOTE: The savings on electric cars is just so impressive. For heavy users, the car is technically paying for itself by leading to significant savings. But do note that these savings will only reflect when you extensively drive your EV over long distances regularly.
MG Windsor CONS: What MG Could have Provided?
Naveen was not just praising its car like a paid user as he also pointed out some Cons, which were evident due to improper design.
- No Rear Wiper: Shockingly you don’t get a rear wiper even in the top-spec variant, which is a safety feature during rains. Although it gets a defogger.
- Touchscreen Dependency: Majority of the functions are controlled by the main touchscreen. So irritating as there are no physical dials. For adjusting the ORVMs while reversing, you need to first shift to neutral, then go in the menu, fold them, and then shift back to reverse. Why the complexity for a simple feature is just beyond our understanding!

- Accessory Quality: The dealership forced Navin an accessory worth Rs 32,000 and was of poor quality, as the chrome garnish peeled off and had to be replaced. The 3.3 kW charger also failed and needed to be replaced.
- Rattling Noise: The ambient light housings were producing a rattling sound at a certain speed.
MG Windsor EV Service Experience
The car has undergone a total of three services (One was done prematurely at 10,000 Km). According to Naveen, the overall experience was seamless, which involves a thorough check of the Battery Management System (BMS), general checks, and washing. Currently, he has not noticed any mechanical issues.

The Verdict: 9/10
Despite the absence of physical buttons which are most important in any car and a shocking absence of rear wiper, our AllAboutEVs team found the Windsor EV to be super practical and a hassle-free car to own.
Naveen’s 13,000 Km was so extraordinary that he rated a solid 9 out of 10 in his overall ownership experience. Naveen stated that the Windsor strikes a perfect balance between space, comfort and sheer affordability. If you can live with a big screen controlling all the functions of the car, the Windsor is indeed a champion in its segment creating a monopoly of its own.
