2026 Tata Tiago EV Real-World Range Test Explained

Tata has recently introduced its 2026 Tiago EV in the Indian market targeting budget consumers transitioning towards EV for the first time. It comes with the same set of battery packs (19.2 kWh & 24 kWh). We recently did a detailed range test to know the exact real-world range extracted from the car.

According to our tests, the 2026 Tiago EV provided a real-world range between 180-185 km in mixed driving conditions. We have mentioned below the full details of the range test done on a mix of open highways and heavy stop-and-go city traffic.

2026 Tata Tiago EV Range Test (100% to 0%)

During the range test, when the Tiago EV’s battery dropped to 5% SOC, the car had successfully covered 167 Km. This means that the car had consumed 90% SOC of the battery capacity to cover this distance. 

If we do the full calculation, a full 100% to 0% discharge in real-world conditions can give a projected real-world range of 180-185 Km. Thus these are very decent figures for a compact city hatchback carrying a full load of passengers and running AC constantly.

The Test Setup & Driving Conditions 

The test started with the battery charged to 95% SOC at Statiq fast charger. But why not 100%? The new EV batteries usually take longer to recharge to the final 5%, so 95% is an accurate starting point. Below we have mentioned the exact conditions during the drive. 

• Occupants & Load: Two Adults inside (75 Kg & 95 Kg), with an additional 10 to 20 Kg of camera gear and luggage. 
• Climate Control: The AC was continually on Auto, set at 24 Degree. 

• Drive Modes: The car was driven in City Mode. 
• Regeneration: Regen braking was kept between Level 2 on open highway and Level 3 in dense bumper-to-bumper traffic. 
• Route & Weather: The outside temperature was around 34°C to 35°C. The Highway speeds were maintained at 75-80 km/hr, maxing out at 90 km/hr.

Key Observations & New Updates 

The 2026 EV showcased some improvements and interesting features during the drive. 

Battery Conservation: Once the battery drops to 10% SOC, the car automatically enters “Limp Mode”. The AC shuts off completely and the top speed is limited to 50 km/hr in order to ensure that the car reaches the charger conveniently. 

Improved Charging Speeds: The Fast charging has shown a considerable jump. During the charging, the car was charging at around 27.6 kW, which is quite better than the outgoing models. 

Driving Dynamics: Tata has finally resolved the indicator and steering stalks, which now prevents accidental clicks. However, we noticed that the wind noise has become quite audible once you cross 80 km/hr. On the other hand, the power delivery is quite wave-like especially on highways which causes bouncy effects over long distances. 

The Verdict 

Overall, we were quite impressed during the range test of 2026 Tiago EV as it has perfectly maintained its reliability and it retains its fantastic city commuter characteristics that delivers precisely what it promises on paper.
