Energy in Motion (EIM) has launched their second heavy-duty battery swapping-cum-charging station at the Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal (NSDT) under the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). This facility is made under the aim of EIM to develop a dedicated EV Megaplex at JNPA, which supports the port authority’s vision of successfully completing its energy transition by December 2027.

This inauguration was attended by Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and CMD, Lokesh Chandra, MSEDCL, Gaurav Dayal, Chairperson, JNPA, Ravish Kumar Singh, Deputy Chairperson, JNPA, and Managing Director of Energy in Motion, Narendra Murkumbi.

EIM Battery Swapping Station Details

The new station is based on the EIM’s existing E5 battery swapping station at JNPA. The company states that around 150 EIM electric trucks are currently operating within JNPA. The planned EV Megaplex will comprise three battery swap-cum-charging stations, a service station, a driver training center and a heavy-vehicle simulator.

Apart from this, the infrastructure is developed specifically for the electrification of more than 700 heavy trucks which operate across major corridors at JNPT. The facility will accelerate EV mobility through freight operations via battery swapping, vehicle servicing, driver training and simulation.

As per EIM, the operations will also include slot-booking and slot-optimisation systems in order to connect electric vehicles with port freight operations.

The Managing Director of Energy in Motion, Narendra Murkumbi, expressed his views on this and said, “The vision of dedicated port operations in JNPT has expanded into a broader Port logistics eco-system, which also includes CFS movements, thus extending the benefits of electric freight into bigger logistics chain.”
