May 2026 EV Sales | Best Selling EVs as Vahan Data
The month of May 2026 has witnessed record sales of over 26,000 units, reflecting the constantly increasing demand for electric vehicles. This growth has also been driven by four major price hikes in petrol and diesel, along with two increases in CNG prices last month.
According to the retail sales data of Vahan Portal, The month of May 2026 has witnessed 17 electric manufacturers recording sales of 26,221 units comprising of electric hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and MPVs delivered last month, resulting in impressive 80% YoY growth (May 2025: 14,850 Units).
AdvertisementThis number is expected to rise by 1,500-2,000 units once all new EV registrations from RTOs are factored across the country. May 2026 is the 4th month in this year to record over 20,000 sales and outnumbered the previous high-sales record of 25,250 units sold in March 2026. May Sales Projections
Tata Motors: Tata Motors has solidified its position at number 1 and has become India’s top manufacturer for electric cars. Tata Motors registered sales of 10,000 units, as they have touched this milestone for the first time. This has resulted in the increase of market share from 35% in May FY25 to 39% in May FY26.

Mahindra: Mahindra has secured second position and has beaten JSW MG Motor India for the third consecutive month. The company has garnered high demand due to its successful trio of Electric Origin SUVs - BE6, XEV 9e, and XEV 9S. This has given a considerable jump in market share to 23%.
JSW MG Motor India: JSW MG Motors has fallen to No 3 position as it has sold 4,936 units last month, which has recorded a 7% increase in YoY. This has given the company 19% EV market share in May 26, which is significantly down from 31% in May 2025.
Maruti Suzuki India: Maruti has surpassed 1,000 units for the first time in April, but now the big giant has hit 1,577 sales of e Vitara SUVs, which gives it a market share of 6% and jumped to 4th rank in May.

VinFast India: VinFast India has registered second-highest monthly sales since its entry into the Indian EV market last year. It has garnered 5th position with 1,224 units.
