The Renault Duster Hybrid is set to become one of the most awaited hybrid SUVs in India in 2026. Renault has announced that it will launch the strong-hybrid variant of the new Duster in India on October 17, 2026. The hybrid powertrain will offer buyers a third option in the Duster portfolio, alongside the existing turbo petrol variants.

The upcoming Renault Duster Hybrid 2026 will feature the E-Tech 160 strong-hybrid system which uses a 1.8 litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery. Unlike mild hybrid systems, the E-Tech 160 can propel the SUV purely in electric mode, making it ideal for city commuting. We have discussed everything you need to know about the Renault Duster Hybrid launch in India, including the powertrain, mileage, features, price and rivals.

Renault Duster Hybrid Launch Date in India

Renault is set to officially launch the Duster Hybrid in India on October 17, 2026. The hybrid SUV is expected to launch months after the launch of petrol variants of the all new Duster.

The hybrid powertrain is expected to be the topmost powertrain option in the Duster SUV. Renault has already listed the E-Tech 160 strong-hybrid system on its India website and the hybrid SUV will be launched around Diwali 2026. This is a crucial launch for Renault as the Duster will become the first hybrid SUV offered by the French automaker in India.

Renault Duster Hybrid Powertrain and Specifications

The most interesting part about the Duster Hybrid is, of course, the powertrain. Renault has stated that the 2026 Renault Duster Hybrid will feature a E-Tech 160 strong-hybrid powertrain which will use:

Specification Renault Duster Hybrid
Powertrain Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160
Petrol engine 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder
Electric motors 2
Battery 1.4 kWh
Combined power 160 hp
Combined torque 172 Nm
Transmission 8-speed DHT
Drive type Front-wheel drive

The 1.8 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine has a displacement of 1,789cc. The hybrid system also uses two electric motors, one of which is used to propel the vehicle while the other is used as a generator. Combined, the powertrain produces 160 hp and 172 Nm. According to Renault’s official sources, the Renault Duster Hybrid will use a 1.8 litre petrol engine, 1.4 kWh battery and 8-speed DHT gearbox with two electric motors.

How does the Duster Hybrid work?

The Duster Hybrid is fundamentally different from a petrol SUV as the engine and electric motors can work together to propel the vehicle. At lower speeds and specific driving conditions, the Renault Duster Hybrid can use electric power exclusively. Renault claims that the E-Tech system can offer up to 80 percent electric driving in urban conditions. The battery can be charged using the hybrid system as well as regenerative braking, without the need for an external power source.

This is one of the most crucial differences between the Duster Hybrid and a pure EV or a plug-in hybrid. With the Duster Hybrid, there is no need to look for a wall socket in order to charge the battery. The petrol engine can also be used for long distance cruising, while the electric motor can be used to reduce fuel consumption in the city. Renault has also equipped the Duster Hybrid with an 8-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). This is in contrast to the e-CVT transmissions which are used by many other strong-hybrid SUVs on the market.

Renault Duster Hybrid Mileage and Efficiency

Fuel efficiency is one of the most important aspects of any hybrid vehicle, and the same goes for the Renault Duster Hybrid. However, Renault has not announced the official ARAI-certified mileage figure for the Duster Hybrid. As such, one should not expect an exact figure in terms of km/l before the launch of the hybrid SUV. It is safe to assume that the Renault Duster Hybrid will have excellent fuel efficiency owing to the hybrid powertrain, regenerative braking system and the ability to drive on electric power in the city.

Renault’s own website mentions that the E-Tech system is focused on achieving maximum efficiency. For reference, the existing Duster TCe 160 petrol variant has an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 18.45 km/l, according to Renault India. The fuel efficiency figures of the hybrid SUV will ultimately decide its demand in the market, and it will be interesting to see what Renault has announced for the Duster Hybrid on October 17.

Design and Features of the New Duster

The new Duster will receive the same exterior design and interior equipment as the petrol variants already on sale in India. The SUV has a bold exterior, including a unique front grille, LED lighting, roof bars and a 212mm ground clearance. Renault also offers a panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate and 18-inch alloy wheels on top variants. Inside, the Duster offers a more modern cabin than the previous Duster. On top variants, the new Duster features:

  • 10.1 inch openR link touchscreen
  • 10.25 inch digital meter
  • Google built-in
  • Wireless smartphone charging
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Electric front seat adjustment
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • 360-degree camera
  • Connected-car features

The openR link system also supports apps and services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and more.

Safety Features

The new Duster has also received several advanced driver-assistance features. The SUV has received 17 advanced driving assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, lane keeping assist, active brake, and traffic sign recognition. Higher trims also get a 360-degree camera.

Renault India also mentions that the new Duster has received a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. Thus, the strong-hybrid Duster is expected to get most variants of the advanced driving assistance systems, along with the connected-car tech. However, exact equipment will be announced when Renault unveils the final pricing of the Duster Hybrid.

Renault Duster Hybrid Expected Price

Renault has not officially announced the price of the new Duster Hybrid. The official pricing will be announced when the automaker launches the hybrid SUV on October 17. For reference, the current Duster price starts at ₹10.49 lakh ex-showroom for the base variant, while the TCe 160 variants start at ₹15-17 lakh ex-showroom. Since strong-hybrid powertrains are more expensive than petrol powertrains, the Duster Hybrid is expected to cost significantly more than the existing petrol variants. It will be interesting to see how much Renault wants for the Duster Hybrid, as it will directly compete with the strong-hybrid SUVs on the market.

Renault Duster Hybrid Rivals

The new Renault Duster Hybrid will directly compete against the following strong-hybrid SUVs in India:

  • Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid
  • Maruti Suzuki Victoris Strong Hybrid
  • Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid

The Duster Hybrid will become one of the few midsize SUVs in India to offer a strong-hybrid powertrain. It is expected to directly compete against the aforementioned Maruti and Toyota SUVs. The Renault Duster Hybrid’s 160 hp E-Tech system, bold exterior, modern interior and advanced driver-assistance features can help it stand out from the competition. Moreover, the Renault Duster Hybrid will also feature an 8-speed hybrid transmission, which sets it apart from the e-CVT transmissions of the rival hybrids.

Conclusion

The Renault Duster Hybrid launch in India on October 17 will offer buyers a new hybrid SUV in the midsize SUV segment. The 1.8 litre petrol engine, two electric motors, 1.4 kWh battery and 8-speed DHT make the Duster Hybrid fundamentally different from the petrol Duster already on sale. Apart from being able to use electric power for urban commuting, the Renault Duster Hybrid is expected to receive many modern tech and safety features. The final price and mileage of the Duster Hybrid will be the most awaited announcements on October 17, and if priced right, it can compete against the strong-hybrid SUVs from Maruti and Toyota.
