Tata Motors holds a significant advantage over MG and Mahindra in EV sales for October 2025.
The festival season of October witnessed a significant rise in the passenger vehicle market as it recorded sales of over 5,00,000 units in October 2025. The sales of EVs have shown growth after a continuous month-on-month decline in September (16,354 Units).
In the month of October, EVs registered sales of 17,783 EVs across India, indicating a growth of 56% from 11,444 units of previous year, ensuring a 9% month-on-month growth.
However, October is the first month of sales after the GST 2.0 was implemented on September 22, which provided a significant reduction in prices by reducing the tax structure on small cars from 28% to 18%, followed by withdrawal of the compensation cess. The overall 5% GST on EVs remains the same, which means the substantial price difference between EVs and ICEs has been reduced significantly.
Tesla and Vinfast also commenced their sales in October. Let’s take a brief look at how each EV manufacturer performed in the month of October in terms of electric car sales.

Tata Motors
Sales: 7,118 Units, Change: +8% YoY
Tata Motors registered sales of 7,118 units in the month of October, which is 8% increase year on year (YoY) from 6,608 units and 7% from the previous month’s 6,634 units. This is Tata’s second-highest monthly score after 7,503 units in August 2025 and makes it a market-leader as it holds a significant share of 40% for the month of October.
The recently launched Harrier EV also helped gaining momentum for Tata Motors, while the Punch EV, Nexon EV and Curvv EV continue to make the majority of its EV sales.
JSW MG Motor India
Sales: 4,497 Units, Change: +61% YoY
MG Motor India sold 4,497 units last month, which is a substantial 61% YoY increase and a significant 8% growth as compared to September’s 4,159 units. This gives MG a 25% of market share in the EV space.
MG is also responsible for eating up Tata Motor’s market share with their hugely popular Windsor EV and its BaaS option, which has helped in expanding their EV lineup with the M9 MPV and has also entered into the luxury EV segment with their latest Cyberster electric roadster. Both models are sold through the brand’s new MG select network.

The company registered sales of 3,867 units with a significant 303% rise on previous year’s 957 XUV400s, and up by 11% over the September’s 3,490 units. These sales figures have established Mahindra with a 22% market share in the month of October.

Sales: 655 Units, Change: +1293% YoY
Kia, which was ranked at the number 9th position, has jumped to number 4th position in October 2025 with the best ever monthly sales of 655 units, which is a 24% hike from 528 units in September alone, ensuring a 1,293% increase from only 47 units a year ago, providing Kia a 4% of market share in the Indian EV segment, outranking BYD India and Hyundai.

This constant growth can be attributed to the rising demand for the locally manufactured Carens Clavis EV. Kia’s electric portfolio includes EV6 and EV9, which are imported via completely built unit (CBU) route.
BYD India
Sales: 560 Units, Change: -6% YoY
BYD India registered only 560 units last month, and due to this it has fallen to fifth position on the EV sales table, which results in the overall reduction of 6% from September’s best-ever monthly sales of 595 units. BYD has an electric portfolio consisting of Atto 3 SUV, Seal Sedan, the eMax 7 MPV, and the Sealion 7 SUV.
Hyundai
Sales: 437 Units, Change: +1,224% YoY
Hyundai recorded sales of 437 EVs last month, which is a significant growth of up to 20% from September’s 364 units registering an impressive 1,224% from October 2024’s 33 units, when it only had the Ioniq 5 in the entire lineup.

This provided Hyundai a 2% share of the Indian EV market. Hyundai also introduced the Creta Electric in January 2025 and after that monthly EV sales saw a growth of 775 units in February to 905 units in March. However, after a certain period of time, the demand for Creta electric SUV has tapered.
