Ather scooters are now equipped with new battery packs featuring LFP cells on the Rizta model.
Ather Energy has updated its battery capacity of 450 and Rizta series, with an entirely new battery chemistry on the Rizta. If we talk about Rizta, it has been upgraded with battery capacity as well as chemistry. Earlier, it was powered by 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery packs.
Rizta & 450 Series to Feature LFP Batteries
Now Ather has revised the size of packs to 2.7 kWh and 3.5 kWh respectively. The claimed IDC range for the smaller pack remains the same, but the bigger battery packs see an improvement from a claimed 159 Km to 161 Km.
AdvertisementThis is very much interesting to see as despite the fewer cells in the pack, Ather has managed to extract more range, which is beneficial for the company as well as the customer. Apart from this, Ather also utilises LFP (Lithium Ferrous Phosphate) chemistry battery packs on the Rizta.

In majority of the cases, LFP packs have less energy density than NMC ones but according to Ather, there is an improvement in range despite having a smaller battery pack of lower energy density. Below we have mentioned the new battery packs attached with the Rizta and 450 Series.
| Model | Old Battery / IDC Range | New Battery / IDC Range |
| Rizta | 2.9 kWh / 123 Km | 2.7 kWh / 123 Km |
| Rizta | 3.7 kWh / 159 Km | 3.5 kWh / 161 Km |
| 450S | 3.7 kWh / 161 Km | 3.5 kWh / 161 Km |
| 450X | 3.7 kWh / 161 Km | 3.5 kWh / 161 Km |
If we look at the sporty 450 models, these continue to be powered specifically with more energy-dense NMC batteries and this is because these batteries are more powerful and helps to maximise performance. While the battery capacity is slightly less on the 450 from 3.7 kWh to 3.5 kWh, the IDC range remains the same at 161 Km.
