Why Did he Choose the BMW iX1? 

The owner told us that he transitioned from a heavy-duty reliable car like Innova Crysta, so naturally, the hopes from the car were high. The owner did a heavy research and test-drove multiple luxury cars like the Mercedes GLA and the ICE BMW X1. However, he went ahead with the iX1 due to unmatched smoothness and instant electric torque delivery. 

In the luxury segment, people often crave for a plush cabin experience and effortless power, which is the strong point for the iX1. The owner was also impressed by the iconic BMW brand and it was his childhood dream to own a performance-oriented car like the iX1.

BMW iX1 Real Range Vs Company Claims 

Let’s address one of the biggest issues with electric SUVs in India, and that is Range Anxiety. BMW claims an impressive 520 Km on a single charge with the 66.4 kWh battery pack. But what are the actual range figures on the road? 

Efficient MODE: According to the owner, if you cruise the iX1 in ‘Efficient’ Mode, you can successfully extract a real-world range of 500 Km. 

Personal MODE: However, while driving in ‘Personal Mode’ with A/C running normally, it provides a realistic range of 440 Km. 

Sports MODE: Just Switch to ‘Sports Mode’ and push the throttle, the range will drop significantly. Thus for long highway trips, the owner used to smartly beat the range anxiety by planning his stops at 5-star hotels, which are equipped with reliable fast EV chargers.

BMW iX1 Performance, Features & Comfort

Just step inside the cabin, and you are greeted with iX1’s tech-laden wonderland. It features a stunning edge-to-edge infotainment screen which is super smooth to operate with zero lags, and remains seamless with regular OTA updates. The music lovers will be very happy with the Harmon Kardon audio system, which has one of the best sound experiences as per the owner. 

How’s the AC performance? Phenomenal! As the iX1’s A/C works exceptionally well even in 34 Degree and cools the cabin seamlessly in low settings. In terms of space, it features one of the longest wheelbase in the segment, providing impressive rear legroom. 

It also comes with a panoramic moonroof (Fixed Glass Roof). The owner found this to be more useful than the openable sunroof as it eradicates the fear of future maintenance such as rubber leaks during monsoons.

BMW iX1 Service Savings & Issues 

If we look at the finance side, the iX1 electric SUV pays off beautifully. The owner told us that he saved around Rs 1.5 lakh in just six months as compared to the fuel costs of his previous Innova Crysta. 

ISSUES: However, it's not just about positives, as there are various issues reported by the owner. One of the most frustrating cons of the car is the highly sensitive collision warning system, as the moment you start the car, it gets automatically engaged and you have to manually dig through the settings to turn it off. 

If you forget, the car applies emergency braking abruptly in tight city traffic, which can be quite dangerous. Even more disappointing is that the dealership also failed to explain these crucial safety tips during delivery. The suspension is also stiff, thus it can be unsettling on rural off-roading tracks or tackling harsh village speed bumps.

The Final Verdict  

So, is the BMW iX1 worth your purchase for Rs 55 lakh? Absolutely. Despite a few issues like a warning system and stiff suspensions, there are huge cost savings, premium comfort, and smooth driving experience which makes it a brilliant daily driver. As the owner rightly justified by saying that the future is definitely electric and making the transition first keeps you ahead of the race.
