The Chairman of Yamaha Motor India, recently shed the light on the brand’s aggressive strategy on the company’s future of electric vehicles in India and told about the upcoming launches.

Redefining the "Premium" Experience

Yamaha is currently analysing the Indian market. For Aota, “premium” is not just about positioning products on the higher price tag or adding customisation. It’s all about building personal branding and aspirations by setting its own identity.

The brand has come to the conclusion that the sweet spot for India’s growing bike enthusiasts lies in the category of 250 CC to 450 CC segment. Yamaha wants riders to establish a deep relationship with their machines, thus transforming beyond standard commuting into the space where the particular bike acts as a reflection of the rider’s personality.

Yamaha Upcoming Electric Motorcycles

Due to high import costs and shifting E20 ethanol blend regulations, Yamaha will be launching a mass-market rollout. Instead, they are also looking for a tight-control reservation model which includes 10% upfront deposits which is restricted to 1,000 units, sold through selected premium dealerships.

EV Learnings & Technical Upgrades

When it comes to EVs, Aota agreed to the fact that big brands were reluctant to implement EVs as they had high hopes on the endurance power and reliability of conventional gasoline engines. But Yamaha is slowly catching up with two EVs. The one is manufactured in-house and developed through a strategic collaboration for accelerated development speed

Thus Yamaha is seamlessly trying to integrate 125 cc and 155 cc single piston engines ICE platforms with advanced hybrid scooter technologies. Currently, they are also actively monitoring the import of advanced twin-cylinder engines from Indonesia in order to diversify their premium Indian lineup.

Thus Yamaha is no longer relying on their proven technologies but actively developing new emerging mobility solutions specifically for the highly evolving Indian consumers.
